- Während der (NADAL® *) COVID-19-IgG / IgM-Schnelltest das Virus indirekt nachweist, erkennt der NADAL® COVID-19-Antigen-Schnelltest es direkt, indem er nach dem Vorhandensein spezifischer Proteine des SARS-CoV-2-Virus sucht. Der Antigennachweis schließt somit eine diagnostische Lücke. Das Nucleocapsid-Protein (N) ist ideal für den Virusnachweis, da es im Virus sehr häufig vorkommt und für SARS-CoV-2 ausreichend spezifisch ist. A second wave of infections will find Europe better prepared. This is in no small part due to the availability of rapid tests that allow for rapid infection control in hospitals and care homes, as well as at airports and border crossings. RT-PCR remains the gold standard for testing for the novel SARS-CoV-2 virus. However, it takes at least 24 hours before results are available. The NADAL® COVID-19 Ag Rapid Test closes an important diagnostic gap. Even if antibodies have not yet been produced – i.e. shortly after the start of an infection – a test for antigens can show this infection. Using fingerstick blood, venous whole blood, plasma or serum samples, the proven antibody test detects anti-SARS-CoV-2 IgG and IgM antibodies within 15 minutes. If the NADAL® COVID-19 IgG/IgM Rapid Test is positive for those antibodies, it means that the body has mounted an immune response and the treating physician can take appropriate measures. After the onset of symptoms, the immune system takes several days to produce the specific antibodies. If the body has not yet produced antibodies, an antigen rapid test can provide clarity. "Each category of diagnostic test has its own unique role in the fight against this virus." The antigen test – also a lateral flow chromatographic immunoassay – checks for protein fragments from the virus and thus for its direct, physical presence in the body. In contrast to the antibody test, the antigen test is performed using a swab from the oral cavity or nasopharynx. This is extracted in a buffer solution and then pipetted onto the test cassette. A qualitative result is ready in less than 20 minutes. The diagnostic sensitivity is 97.56 % and the diagnostic specificity is >99.9 %. That means that positive results from antigen tests are very precise. However, as there is always a residual risk of a false-negative result, when in doubt, a PCR test should be carried out to confirm negative results. The choice between antibody, antigen and PCR tests is not an either/or decision. Rather, the best tactic is a combined application.
